It is said that if you are in
Rome and don't see Pyramid- your
visit to Rome is incomplete; If
you don't see Taj Mahal while
you are in India- again your visit
to India is incomplete. Likewise,
if you don't go for the Everest
mountain flight while you are
in Nepal- then your visit to Nepal
becomes meaningless.
For the traveler who is unable
to make a trekking trip to the
mountains either because of lack
of time or physical fitness, there
are mountain flights to stimulate
the experience. The one hour flight
takes you within camera range
of some of the highest peaks in
the world, cruising this close
to the awe-inspiring massifs of
rock and ice, is an out -of- this
earth experience. The aircraft
takes off and heads eastward and
almost immediately, the peaks
come into view. You can see uncountable
mountain peaks that are above
6000 meter. Finally, there is
Mount Everest (8,848m), called
'Sagarmatha' by the Nepalis and
'Chomolungma' by the Tibetans.

of mountains "The Everest".

adventure lover trek up to Kalapatthar
5545 m. The trail- heads east
winding up and down forested slopes,
pastures and villages inhabited
by various ethnic groups. Entering
the Dudh Koshi river valley, we
turn north and follow the river
upstream to Monjo and on to Namche
Bazaar in the Sherpa heartland.
We continue trekking sharing the
trail with yak caravans passing
Tyangboche monastery and on to
Pheriche across alpine meadows
above the tree line. We are in
very high country now and the
route continues along the Khumbu
glacier to Gorakshep. The summit
of Kalapatther (5,545 m) is a
steep ascent and provides the
best vantage point to view Everest.
The vista of the tallest mountain
on earth from here is awe-inspiring.
We walk back to Lukla and then
fly to Kathmandu.
